"You can populate entire movements with stupid people" (AFA edition)

The American Family Association (of which the less said the better) has a new email out titled "What will religion look like in 2060 ". ThinkProgress has the details - go there and take a look at the original . The email deserves a thorough fisking, and thankfully Hunter is up to the task ( reproduced from the original below ) What will religion look like in the year 2060? Laser shows. Lots and lots of laser shows. Conservative Christians will be treated as second class citizens, much like African Americans were prior to civil rights legislation in the 1960s. There will be "conservative Christian" drinking fountains, and special "conservative Christians" entrances to buildings, and conservative Christians will be … oh, let's just move on. Family as we know it will be drastically changed with the state taking charge of the children beginning at birth. And doing what with them? Wildmon doesn't say, presumably because we would all find i...

Daily Caller Shark Jumping - CIgarette Review Edition

Image
Hoo boy - just when you thought you'd seen everything, along comes Daily Caller 's latest idiocy - Cigarette reviews . And not just any old review - reviews done with flair, style, and a remarkable degree of odiousness. So well done in fact that if it wasn't for the fact that this is almost Onion worthy.  Except that it is the Daily Caller - Tucker Carlson 's latest chumpy endeavor and is entirely serious. Patrick Howley's review of the Marlboro Red is truly the Mariah Carey of reviews - starting on a high note, and just going up from there. Before cigarettes were sold to men for the purpose of sexual solicitation, they were allowed to revel in their polarizing maleness, their seductiveness muted and irrelevant, their purpose utilitarian. Hoo boy.  Seriously? " sexual solicitation "? What on earth is Howley smoking? Apparently something a bit different from a Marlboro Red, I suspect.. Densely concentrated at its tip, the Marlboro requires a ...

Somebody needs to shut down the NY Times Style Section

Image
They just had a fawning, fawning , article on The Brant Brothers, and I tell you what? You don't know who The Brant Brothers are? That, as it turns out, is the point! You don't, and, quite frankly, you don't want to! NOBODY should care who they are, except for the doofi at the NY Times Style Section who have decided that they are going to push them as the New Hilton Sisters! Anyhow, the NY Times Style Section had a fawning, fawning article on The Brant Brothers , which has such brilliant phrases in it as Harry, 15, and his 18-year-old brother are the well-spoken product of cross-pollination of the Übermenschen. “Everybody loves celebrity children,” said Stephanie Trong, the editorial director of The Cut. “But perhaps the biggest appeal is that these guys live in the lap of luxury and they’re extremely open about their exploits. How many teens go to couture shows or fashion parties, much less document them on their joint Twitter feed, in such a hilarious, unc...

The WSJ Editorial Page - Always good for a laugh...

Image
Noah Smith brings the pain to the WSJ editorial page. Mind you, that is somewhat unto shooting fish in a barrel, but it is still fun to read a comprehensive and thorough Fisking He first calls attention to what appears to be a massive exodus from the Golden State: Nearly four million more people have left the Golden State in the last two decades than have come from other states. This is a sharp reversal from the 1980s... Wow, California must be well on its way to being a ghost town. Oh wait, no. Because during those past two decades, immigration more than made up the difference. California's population has risen from 29.8 million to 37.3 million. [...]Next up, we have some pure unadulterated old-fashioned bullshit: "[I]f you're a guy working for a Silicon Valley company and you're married and you're thinking about having your first kid, and your family makes 250-k a year, you can't buy a closet in the Bay Area," Mr. Kotkin says. The   median...
