Speech to text is getting easier (and may even be easy these days) but identifying sounds by category — dog barking? music playing? street noise? — is still hard.
OK, was hard — the folks at #DeviceHive have a nifty #MachineLearning toolkit that does most of this. There is #TensorFlow, source code, GUIs, examples, and, to boot, an integration with their IoT platform (°)
