Windows 8 losing the Start button?

From Ubergizmo - Windows 8 losing the Start button?:
If you’re a fan of the Start button that has been with the Windows operating system ever since Windows 95, it looks like Windows 7 might be the last place you can see it. According to some new reports about Windows 8 that surfaced last week, the iconic Start button is now gone.
To which I say "Amen!" and "About Time Too!".
Actually, I probably don't.  Its not that I hated it, its just that they used it everywhere, and it was pretty damn stupid in most uses.
Remember Windows Mobile?  Why?  I ask you, Why was there a Start button on a piddly screen?

Then again, I suspect some other insanity approaching.  Rumors have it that the are replacing the button with either
  • A "hotspot" somewhere on the screen that you have to hover over (which I really doubt is true, but whatever)
  • Having to use the 'Windows' key on the keyboard, which seems much more realistic.
Me, I can hardly wait to see what our Masters in Redmond have in store for us...
