Shop24 - So dumb it'll probably make Kroger a fortune

 When you need something in the middle of the night, where do you go? Surely round-the-clock convenience stores like 7-11 will pop into mind, but working the graveyard shift eventually takes its toll on the human body. How about getting robots to do the job? The Ladera Palms Apartment Homes in Fort Worth will soon house Shop24, a self-contained, totally automated, robotic convenience store. This will be the first apartment property in the US that will feature such a unique device, where the machine (standing tall at over 9 feet) will offer up to 200 traditional items at all times
 Seriously - I've gotten really good at identifying really really stupid ideas which go on to make their owners fortunes (Yahoo, RedBox, Boingo, you name it, I had a reason why it was never, ever going to work)
So, please welcome Shop24 to my pantheon of crazy ideas.  I mean, seriously, don't we already have these?  Aren't they called "Vending Machines"? Are they just rebranding stuff , and saying "Its big, so its not a 'vending machine', its a 'Shop24'?
Sooo baffled...

The nice thing about garbage-collection is that it is makes memory management absolutely transparent to you Of course, the above is true right up to the point when it stops being transparent, at which point it does a phase change from nice to clusterf**k of biblical proportions .  There are entire posts, books, and suicide notes that have been written about this, and I have no great desire to add to them, save with the minor comment that paranoia about garbage-collection is still justified , albeit only in the edge-cases for most people. That said, I'll give you that Erlang GC is in many ways much, much better positioned in this regard than, oh, Java, but it still rears up and bites you in the butt when you least expect it. Cannonball Tree!

Spotted this one just outside the Ravindra Kalakshetra in Bangalore .  Its called the Cannonball Tree , but is - technically (i.e., in Latin, if thats your metier) - Couroupita Guianensis , or ನಾಗಲಿಂಗ ಪುಷ್ಪಾ  in Kannada. The fruits look like Cannonballs (well, d-uh), and the flowers are really quite amazing, and pretty ludicrously distinctive...
